ParaLine to transform property accountability, give time back to Soldiers

REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala.– Army Materiel Command is rolling out a progressive web application poised to revolutionize property accountability across the Army, saving Soldiers a significant amount of time while conducting inventory and increasing readiness. ParaLine is a mobile environment that allows Soldiers to leverage existing AUDS-enabled tablets to manage inventory and property books with speed and accuracy.

The days of the three-ring binder and manual serial number verification are over. With ParaLine, Soldiers can scan a barcode to verify a serial number, update the count and sign for it on their unit-issued tablet. The information is automatically sent to the company supply sergeant and updates the hand receipt in GCSS-Army, with sub-hand receipts being updated automatically as well.

"The things we are doing to streamline property accountability are absolutely transformational,” said Lt. Gen. Chris Mohan, commanding general of AMC, “ParaLine is part of our larger effort to enhance the Soldier experience and modernize the way the Army manages equipment.”

Soldiers can now access ParaLine at [ParaLine.army.mil/app]() on Army Unified Directory Service-compliant, government-furnished tablets and laptops using their active Global Combat Support System-Army account and Common Access Card authentication. Training and support are available within the application. Users must ensure that they have U.S. Army Network Enterprise Technology Command approval for tablet camera access, which is required to enable equipment scans, image uploads and CAC capture.

ParaLine provides a modernized digital capability to execute property accountability tasks more efficiently, reduces the administrative burden on commanders and supply personnel and improves end-item inventory accuracy and accountability across more than 5,000 Army supply rooms. It can be used to conduct inventories for change of command, cyclic and sensitive items.

“We’re giving Soldiers back their most valuable resource, which is time,” Mohan said.

The development of ParaLine came in response to several engagements between former Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. Randy George and Soldiers in motor pools, which identified property accountability as a top challenge. The existing process is a manual, time-consuming endeavor that detracts from unit readiness. Supply Soldiers are often buried in paperwork, printing bills of materials, physically counting each piece of equipment and then manually re-entering the data into Army systems of record.

ParaLine’s current functionality is heavily influenced by feedback from noncommissioned officers and officers who frequently conduct property accountability. A proof of concept was completed in March 2024, with pilot testing running through mid-2025.

During pilot testing, some units using ParaLine experienced an 80% reduction in the time required for property accountability – tasks that used to take days could be accomplished in hours.

"Property accountability can be a significant drain on man-hours because it is susceptible to user error," said Capt. Hannah Jones, former commander of Headquarters and Headquarters Company at the 14th Field Hospital.

Jones’ company tested ParaLine during a change of command inventory and reported back to AMC that the app was easy to use and saved her Soldiers hours of work while also eliminating discrepancies.

“Instead of spending weeks printing documents and verifying shortages, the app downloaded everything in under five minutes and the process was completed in under three hours,” Jones said.

The feedback from Soldiers like Jones was instrumental in evolving ParaLine into an intuitive, user-friendly app that directly addresses the challenges they face in the field – including the need to operate offline for hours and synchronize the data they collected upon reconnecting to a network.

“For Supply personnel, this means an end to manual data entry and error-prone reconciliations,” said Jones. “For leadership, it provides an accurate, real-time view of your property book while freeing up your Soldiers to focus on their primary duties.”

Looking ahead, ParaLine is slated to incorporate several advanced features, including passive RFID integration, end-to-end traceability of lateral transfers, and IUID functionality to resolve item discrepancies.

The launch of ParaLine marks a significant step forward in the Army's efforts to modernize and streamline its processes. By leveraging technology to simplify a cumbersome but essential task, the Army is not only increasing efficiency and accuracy but, most importantly, giving Soldiers back the time they need to focus on building and maintaining readiness.
